Cobcraft Thermocouples — K, R & S Type Range
Our thermocouples are built for accuracy, stability, and long service life in demanding kiln environments. We supply three thermocouple types—K, R, and S—each suited to different firing temperatures, controller configurations, and budget levels.
Type K Thermocouples (Bentrup Branded — 8 mm Sheath)
Best for: General‑purpose firing up to stoneware Sheath: 8 mm Repairable: No
Our Bentrup‑branded Type K thermocouples are a reliable, cost‑effective option for most electric kilns. The 8 mm sheath provides fast response times, and they are fully compatible with Bentrup controllers configured for K‑type. Ideal for studios and hobbyists wanting dependable performance without the cost of platinum‑based probes.
Type R Thermocouples (Cobcraft In‑House — 10 mm Sheath, Repairable)
Best for: High‑temperature, high‑duty firing Sheath: 10 mm (heavy‑duty) Repairable: Yes
Our in‑house manufactured Type R thermocouples are the premium option in our range. Built with a robust 10 mm sheath, they offer exceptional durability and long service life, especially in production environments. Unlike K and S types, our R‑type probes can be repaired, making them the most economical long‑term choice for high‑use kilns. These probes use platinum/rhodium elements and are compatible with controllers set to R‑type.
Type S Thermocouples (Bentrup Branded — 8 mm Sheath, ETA ~6 Weeks)
Best for: High‑temperature firing with European‑standard performance Sheath: 8 mm Repairable: No Cable: Uses the same compensating cable as R‑type
Our Bentrup‑branded Type S thermocouples are widely used throughout Europe. Due to the high cost of platinum and rhodium wire, S‑type is often preferred overseas because it uses slightly less precious metal while offering performance very similar to R‑type. These probes share the same compensating cable as R‑type, making upgrades or replacements straightforward. Expected to be available in New Zealand in approximately 6 weeks.
Thermocouples
The Type R is used in very high temperature applications. It has a higher percentage of Rhodium than the Type S, which makes it more expensive. The Type R is very similar to the Type S in terms of performance. It is sometimes used in lower temperature applications because of its high accuracy and stability. Type R has a slightly higher output and improved stability over the type S.
We use New Zealand Couriers for urgent deliveries and Aramex for larger heavy bulky items. Kilns will be shiiped Via Mainfreight or Toll Logistics.
